It’s back to campus time for our university partners. A new academic year brings new initiatives and, of course, new challenges. And, TechPipeline is here to help you navigate the months ahead. We open this month’s issue with reexamining the hybrid work world: we present real-world lessons from our roundtables and conversations with readers to understand how effective and supportive a hybrid work policy is in 2025.

Next, we heard from James Zanewicz, whose career shift surprised many as he leaves the academic community to his a new role as CEO of Connect, the celebrated economic development agency. We sat down with James to understand his vision for Connect’s next 10 years as well as his reflections on technology transfer’s future. Returning to campus also means ramping up faculty engagement. In “Hello! We’re Here to Help” we speak with TTO leaders to learn their tried and tested initiatives to increase faculty relationships on campus. Lastly, Idaho National Lab provides a case study in shifting practices to improve office efficiency at a time when virtually all TTOs are doing more with less, including in-sourcing legal work and maximizing the use of AI during the patent searches, disclosure analysis, marketing, and other processes.
